Distinctly British, driven, and passionate about music are just a few terms one would use to describe Fever. Formed in 2019 under the label Very Clever Records, this five-piece band have really begun to spread their wings in the thriving indie industry. Described as the “latest cultural ambassadors flying the flag for the city of Hull”, Fever have certainly been busy since they formed.
They’ve already had their first string of headline shows across the UK with supporting band This Feeling, and have just spent the first half of this year supporting indie legends Blossoms on their March 2020 UK tour. Giving a listen to their first singles ‘Jungle Man’ and ‘Money Love’ will show you just why these boys – James Harrod, Mitchell Capes, Charley May, Joe Gray, and Sam Howell – are already making their mark. With gritty, funky guitars, powerful vocals, and catchy choruses, both songs are a pleasure to listen to and downright promising. Their latest single ‘Electric’ came out last month and with summery, distorted guitars and raw, echoey vocals, it’s undoubtedly their best work yet. If you’re a fan of The Strokes, Oasis or Circa Waves, you’ll probably love Fever.
Finding Inspiration
For the boys, their latest single ‘Electric’ has been inspired by the predictability of entering a new relationship. Highlighting that musically, it was one of the earliest tracks they worked on as a band.
“I think we all knew early on that it had probably one of the biggest or catchiest choruses we’d written to date, so it was just about embracing that and trying to make the track equally “hooky”. (Joe, Drummer)
The bands first couple of singles (‘Jungle Man’ & ‘Money Love’) were produced initially to give people a short taster of what the band represents. To show two different sides to the band, as not to get pigeonholed straight away. The artists highlight wanting to hold back the likes of ‘Electric’ until after the Blossoms tour, so that they had a bigger potential audience to be heard by.
Fever/Blossoms Tour
For Fever, touring alongside Blossoms was the best experience any of them have ever had! Going onto highlight how the scale of gigging was at a level none of them have ever really got anywhere near previously.
“It’s weird how quickly you settle into it and it begins to feel vaguely normal! Obviously we’re aware that everyone was there to see Blossoms, but it was still nice to be able to pull a good-sized crowd so early on and get a really good reaction each night.”
Humbled by their new exposure, the boys explain how it was a pleasure to be able to watch two great bands every night – Blossoms and The Magic Gang.
Looking to the Future
Prior to Covid-19, the artists explain how they had planned to record an EP straight off the back of the Blossoms tour. Sadly, this has had to subsequently be put on hold due to social distancing/lockdown.
The band is hoping to have another single or two out by the end of the year. With a rescheduled show with Blossoms at Kentish Town Forum in London planned for August and rescheduled festivals including Liverpool Sound City and Live at Leeds from September onwards, the boys are positive and excited about what is in store for the future!
