South London soul artist Debbie returns with ‘The Rain Isn’t Over’, a tender, emotionally raw new single that marks a powerful moment in her ongoing artistic rebirth. The track is one of Debbie’s most intimate releases to date, a song written in the wake of profound loss, rediscovered years later and shared at a time when its meaning feels clearer than ever. In the aftermath of her departure from 0207 Def Jam, Debbie found herself in a period of emotional recalibration. It was during an unplanned studio session with longtime friend and collaborator Hannah V. that ‘The Rain Isn’t Over’resurfaced, an unreleased song recorded years earlier.

“After my label and I parted ways, I felt pretty numb and honestly unsure of what I was doing or why I was doing it anymore,” Debbie explains. “Not long after, I ended up in the studio with my old friend, Hannah V. While we were there, we stumbled across some demos we’d completely forgotten about. One of them was ‘The Rain Isn’t Over’. I realized we had recorded it just a few days after my mum passed, which stopped me in my tracks.”

Originally written in the aftermath of grief, ‘The Rain Isn’t Over’ captures Debbie in a moment of emotional suspension, when healing hasn’t yet arrived but life has to move forward. Sparse, soulful and unguarded, the track leans into restraint, allowing Debbie’s voice to carry the weight of feeling without resolution or spectacle. The song was first shared as part of a deeply personal 90-day creative challenge, where Debbie began posting unreleased demos daily directly to her community. The response was immediate and far-reaching, with multiple clips gaining traction across Instagram and TikTok, amassing over 2 million views and hundreds of thousands of likes and comments, as audiences connected instinctively with the song’s honesty and emotional stillness.

“Seeing how deeply it connected with people reminded me why I make music in the first place,” Debbie continues. “To share honestly, and to connect with the people who need it.”

Debbie first emerged as a distinctive new voice in British soul with her 2022 debut single ‘Is This Real Love?’, earning praise from The GuardianRolling Stone UKEvening Standard and the BBC, alongside support from Apple Music and YouTube, and a performance on Later… with Jools Holland. Shaped by a childhood spent singing in her South London church, her music carries a gospel-rooted emotional depth that runs through both her collaborations, including work with StormzyNines and Victor Ray, and her own releases.

Originally conceived as an EP, Debbie now reclaims A Minor Tear’ as both a philosophy and a debut album. With a deep, lived understanding of grief and an ability to sit with emotion, Debbie pours feeling into her music, offering her songs as a form of healing. First for herself, then for others. ‘The Rain Isn’t Over’ marks the beginning of this new chapter, which will be shaped in real time alongside her community, inviting fans into the process and building emotional trust. By continuing to use the audience’s emotional response as qualitative insight, Debbie allows the community to meaningfully influence the project’s direction. An artist-led, emotionally grounded body of work built on honesty, trust and human connection.
