Off the back of landing her role as Harper in Dreamworks’s enchanted series “Dew Drop Diaries” [S2] [streaming on Netflix], we caught up with rising star hailing from the vibrant city of Chicago, Spencer Moss. At the young age of 13 years of age, the actress humbly admits that as much as she is grateful for the incredible experiences she has had the opportunity to be involved in, being grounded is key. “Every job that I get to be part of is a learning experience. We can all continue to learn new things for our entire lives, not just in the acting world!”
Within her role as Harper Ryan in Dew Drop Diaries hitting UK shores! Moss highlights how her character gets up to lots of adventures that are resolved with the help of Eden and the Dew Drops. The actress explains the reason she loves this show is because it depicts diverse characters with different body types, abilities, talents, personalities, backgrounds, and interests that accurately represent the beautiful, colorful world we live in!
Moss sees herself as similar to Harper in that family always comes first for the actresss! “I have two brothers and a sister and they are my absolute best friends! I do feel I was made for this specific role and the best part, I got to originate! As the writers got to know me better, they would add fun little bits to the script for me! It was an amazing experience overall!” Moss points out that she did not have official training when she started! Going onto explain how through the help of her manager she able to develop and utilize her imagination more to help get into character.
Moss opens up about her nerves through auditioning and on set. “I just tested (which means make it until the end) for a series regular role on a streaming service. I had to keep going back into the room with the producer, director, showrunner, casting…so many adults”. Finding inspiration through her sister Avery, the actress has come to the realization that nerves and excitement is not mutually exclusive from eachother! With this in mind, the actress works to do the best she can and leave it all in the room. Further highlighting that if you don’t move on after your audition, the rejection would consume you. Thus building up a thick skin to persevere through the rejections.
As the youngest of four siblings, the actress recalls “falling” into acting! “It was what my older siblings were doing at the time, so I went along to auditions and ended up being signed by an agent! My brothers have not acted for years, but my older sister, Avery Moss, is pounding the pavement in Los Angeles! She is amazing and will be a star!” The actress admits to a love for “meaty” based roles. With a preference for dramas and comedy. Taking additional inspiration from Jenna Ortega, having watched Wednesday more times than she can count; Moss is by her own admission a massive fan of the Harry Potter books and films!
In the actress’s downtime, she spends around 20 – 30 hours per week attending dance class. Alongside competitions with her dance studio. which take place across the country.
