    How You’ll Make an Impact

    • Setup and operate conventional and CNC rotor shaft lathes
    • Perform various machining operations on a variety of components from large nuclear to industrial single stage rotors
    • Work with Manufacturing Engineers to troubleshoot and problem solve

    Your profile

    • Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree or trade school certificate is preferred.
    • 6+ years of CNC lathe experience, preferably using steady rest supports
    • A basic knowledge of machine shop operations together with the ability to understand complex drawings, specifications, charts, and tables.
    • Ability to use various types of precision measuring instruments.
    • Ability to obtain fork truck and crane license. Previous experience is preferred.
    • Successful applicants can pass standard hearing, vision, and pulmonary function tests.
    • Must also be able to read, write, understand, and follow verbal and/or written instructions in English.
    • Must be able to live and work legally in the United States.

    Your responsibilities

    • Lathe turn large electrical generator rotor shafts, which are typically made from 50 to 70-ton high alloy steel forgings.
    • Manufacture a variety of alloy steel generator components and in-house tools using CNC machine tools and, occasionally, manual machine tools.
    • Set up using steady rests and operate one or more of the following machine tools: Tacchi CNC Lathe (18 meter length, 110 ton capacity), Ferrel CNC Lathe (17 meter length, 300 ton capacity), Ferrel CNC Lathe (11 meter length, 60 ton capacity), Ferrel CNC Lathe (16 meter length, 160 ton capacity), and Betts-Bridgeford 72” Manual Lathe.
    • Instruct and/or mentor employees in the Siemens Energy Apprenticeship Program.
    • Engage in continuous improvement by applying 5S methodology as a component of a Lean production system.

In addition to manufacturing new rotors, we also service generator rotors by providing inspections, rewinds, modernizations, and upgrades.
