H&S Manager required for a manufacturing business in the outskirts of Perth
My client is a leading manufacturer based on the outskirts of Perth, looking for the services of a professional H&S Manager.
Job Description
To lead the Company in all aspects of Health & Safety (H&S), as well as environmental considerations and compliance, whilst promoting a ‘Safety First’ and solution-driven culture across our business. Working with a range of key stakeholders, this role centres round building Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) strategy, understanding policy, ensuring industry and HSE compliance, as well as developing clear standards of safety adherence and environmental accountability for all departments.
Accountabilities
• Ensure full and consistent Company and individual compliance with H&S as well as environmental legislation, legalities and industry ‘best-practice.’
• Design, develop and deliver a ‘Safety First’ attitude – working with key stakeholders to improve their understanding and application of H&S standards and compliance.
• Establish and monitor a clear and compliant HSE training programme across the organisation.
• Establish and communicate HSE standards across the business, providing adequate training to the team and monitoring with a view to reducing our corporate carbon footprint.
• Monitor and identify key changes to legislation and industry standards, adapting our procedures and processes as necessary to accommodate such changes.
• Ensure impeccable HSE standards are maintained throughout our operations and wider business.
Responsibilities and Tasks
• Demonstrate and promote a ‘Safety First’ culture and strategy throughout the business.
• Continuously ensure a solutions-driven approach to HSE matters.
• Work with key stakeholders to ensure full understanding of HSE requirements, as well as ensure continuous improvement in HSE standards across our operations.
• Monitor H&S compliance throughout the business, with a particular focus on our manufacturing, production and warehouse facilities.
• Ensure a safe working environment without risk to health.
• Ensure that all H&S, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
• Keep abreast of any updates and changes to legislation relating to H&S as well as environmental matters, ensuring translation of such changes throughout the business as required.
• Ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
• Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.
• Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented.
• Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
• Take ownership of our H&S policies, systems of work and procedures. Ensure full and accurate H&S records and training records are maintained.
• Establish and coordinate a full programme of documented H&S inspections, audits and checks.
• Establish a structured programme of H&S training throughout the Company, liaising with third party providers as required in the development and/or delivery of such courses and H&S services generally.
• Manage and devise the agenda for, chair, formulate & distribute minutes for the Health & Safety Committee meetings. Ensure that all agreed action points are completed within deadlines. Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to business.
• Provide regular reports to the Head of Quality & Compliance, Head of People & Development, Board of Directors/Leadership Team on relevant H&S activities. Participate in meetings when required to report on relevant H&S matters.
• Provide expertise on matters pertaining to H&S surrounding innovation.
• Provide guidance on safety equipment and the safe installation of new machinery.
• Assess and identify training needs across the business in areas pertaining to HSE matters.
• Escalate H&S matters as appropriate.
• Review and manage Occupational Health reports pertaining to H&S considerations.
