    Job Description

    Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with diverse learning needs? We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting and including students with specific learning difficulties within the classroom and in small group or one-to-one settings.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Supporting the Pupil:

    • Encourage and assist students in their learning journey.
    • Develop and utilize resources to support student learning.
    • Promote positive social interactions and classroom engagement.
    • Implement strategies to boost students’ self-esteem.
    • Assist in creating and updating Individual Education Plans (IEPs) where relevant.

    Supporting the Teacher:

    • Provide targeted support to teachers working with students who have Specific Learning Difficulties.
    • Offer regular feedback on student progress to teaching staff.

    Supporting the School:

    • Contribute to reviews and assessments of pupil progress.
    • Participate in relevant in-service training.
    • Adhere to school procedures and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues.
    • Reinforce school and classroom rules as necessary.
    • Assist with general administrative tasks within the Learning Support Department, including exam administration, academic auditions, and initial assessments for potential Special Educational Needs.

    Supporting the Curriculum:

    • Understand the requirements of the school and national curriculum to support curriculum targets.
    • Provide specific support during lessons as planned by the teacher.

    Person Specification

    Essential Qualifications and Experience:

    • GCSEs or equivalent.
    • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
    • Experience working in secondary education.
    • Proficient in IT, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a creative environment.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to different learning approaches.

    Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

    • Teaching Assistant Qualification Level 3 or above.
    • Knowledge of KS3 and KS4 curriculum in English, Maths, and Science.
    • Previous experience within a Learning Support department.
    • Effective communication skills with children and adults, including parents and carers.
    • Experience with SEND and neurodiversity, including ASD and ADHD.
    • Ability to manage behaviour effectively to ensure a positive and safe learning environment.
    • Capability to collaborate with subject or vocational staff to suggest classroom support strategies.
