    About the Borough:

Located in the heart of South London, Lambeth Borough is a vibrant community of over 317,600 residents. Stretching from the dynamic neighbourhood of Streatham in the South to the iconic landmarks of Waterloo in the North, we are proud to be the 9th largest borough in London. Our diversity is our strength, with more than 130 languages spoken, making Lambeth the home of the Windrush generation, London’s largest LGBTQ+ community, and a thriving Portuguese-speaking community.

With exceptional schools, lush green spaces including Brockwell Park, cultural gems like the Black Cultural Archives, and world-renowned institutions such as St Thomas’s Hospital, Lambeth offers an enriching and dynamic environment.

    About the Role:

This position is an exciting opportunity to lead and spearhead a new pan-London approach to building construction emissions compliance.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic enforcement officer with a background in construction and noise/pollution control. There are two key responsibilities to this role:

Firstly, the successful candidate will work across development and construction sites within the London Borough of Lambeth ensuring emissions compliance (for amongst other things, noise, dust, and Non-Road Mobile Machinery) both informally and formally.

Secondly, they will proactively foster and develop close relationships with these construction and development companies to embed behavioural and cultural changes where construction emissions compliance is the norm. This could be through adopting low-emission practices, highlighting new emission-reducing innovations, sharing information on how to go beyond compliance, and building knowledge around policy and borough guidelines.

The ideal candidate would be a self-starter who not only has a strong regulatory/enforcement background – but is also comfortable in building lasting relationships and communicating key findings with stakeholders.

This role provides training in construction emissions enforcement policies and guidelines as well as the opportunity to learn from the key players in this sector (including Merton Council, Arup, and Impact on Urban Health foundation).

We especially encourage applications from people from underrepresented groups and while the role is open to all applicants, Lambeth will utilise the positive action provisions of the Equality Act 2010 to appoint a candidate from underrepresented groups where there is a choice between two candidates of equal merit.
