Principle Primary Engineer (Proposals)

    You will be responsible for providing technical input into the production of Tender Engineering drawings/documents (Single Line Diagrams, Substation Layouts and Elevations, Primary BoQ including Equipment BoQ, Earthing Layouts / BoQ, Interlock BoQ, Busbar and Clamp BoQ, Multicore Cable Schedule and interface with Power System Studies and Civil Information) by others and providing approvals against Design Specifications, programme, budget and the appropriate quality, health and safety requirements and managing allocated personnel.
    How You’ll Make an Impact
    • Supporting Primary Engineering to drive common engineering solutions and processes across all allocated tenders and develop safe working solutions for use through the substation lifecycle.
    • Supporting Primary Engineering to ensure production of Primary Engineering drawings/documents to Design Specifications, programme, budget and to the appropriate quality and safety requirements and taking responsibility for technical issues with additional team members
    • Compilation of Bills Of Quantities with costs
    • Supporting Primary Engineering with approval of Engineering Technical Specifications
    • Technical Evaluation of Supplier Quotations.
    • Input to deviations & clarifications schedules during tender phase.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to Primary Engineers on allocated tenders.
    • Attend HAZID Reviews on tenders as and when required.
    • Provide timely responses to non-conformances raised through the NCR+ process.
    • Coordinate with other departments on associated tenders.
    • Attend site visits during tender phase.
    • Attend Technical Meetings with Client, site or office based, to ensure customer satisfaction.
    • Recognise and communicate business opportunities within ongoing tenders / projects.
    • Gain product knowledge and site knowledge through visits to UK sites and German factories.
    • Support Primary Engineering with attendance of Client Policy and Best Practice Meetings and provide feedback to the department.
    • Identify and implement new tools, designs, product and process improvements.
    • Assist in the Professional Development of Proposals Staff.
    What You Bring
    • HNC/ Degree Qualified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or qualified by experience
    • Extensive experience within the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry, including  UK Transmission System experience
    • Fully conversant with the latest Transmission and Distribution standards & technologies applicable to HV Substation design
    • Fully conversant with Health and Safety standards (including CDM Regulations) applicable to the design of High Voltage Substations
    • Flexible approach to design solutions
    • Decision making skills
    • Positive working attitude, able to demonstrate self motivation and a proactive approach
    • Work as a Line Manager providing leadership to other team members and trainees
    • Must be a confident communicator and proactive problem solver
    • Good written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills
    • Practical working knowledge of key Microsoft applications – Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet
    • Use of different methods of communication to interpret and express technical information in English
    • Ability to manage, motivate and inspire others
    • Able to provide coaching/mentoring for Engineers (if necessary)
    • Able to prepare and present Technical Presentations to clients
    • Good customer focus/management skills
    • Experience of sustainability and environmental design considerations
    • Able to assist in the recruitment and selection process for new staff
    • Experience of continuous improvement processes
    • Knowledge of commercial/contractual issues
    • Knowledge of Change Claim Management Processes
    • Experience of working and communicating in a multi-cultural environment
