    About the role

    Energia, part of Energia Group, have an exciting opportunity for an Energy Policy Analyst based in Dublin or Belfast.

Our Policy and Regulation Team is responsible for representing and promoting the interests of Energia Group with policy makers, regulators, government bodies, system operators and trade associations, across its Renewables, Flexible Generation and Customer Solutions businesses.

    Your key responsibilities and accountabilities

    Day-to-day, here’s what your new role would look like:

    • You will be part of a high performing professional team that is always looking to find opportunities to support the Group’s strategy of profitably growing, diversifying and trading its renewable and flexible generation portfolio whilst providing exemplary customer service through technological advances and assisting our customers’ aspiration to decarbonise.

    • Horizon scan and monitor market, regulatory and policy developments across the island of Ireland, GB and the EU that affect the interests of the business units. Provide timely and clear notification of these developments to the business and maintain updates on shared channels such as MS Teams and SharePoint.

    • Review and respond to consultations, proposed market modifications, policy reforms and legislative change – identify any possible impacts and draft clear, concise and robust responses and / or presentations.

    • Work with relevant internal stakeholders to understand implications of potential planned regulatory and policy changes, supporting implementation as required.

    • Represent Energia on external trade associations, industry forums and workshops such as the Electricity Internal Governance Group, Gas Market Arrangements Retail Group, Electricity Association of Ireland Retail Committee.

    • Develop and maintain a high standard of understanding of the Energia business, its strategic goals and its operating environment and apply this to all aspects of the role.

    • Develop and maintain an awareness of best practice in the energy industry and related industries in Ireland, the UK and internationally and apply this to all aspects of the role.

    • Support compliance with relevant licences, Supplier Handbook and Codes of Practice.

    • Manage the coordination of monthly Steering Group meetings across Customer Solutions, Flex Gen and Renewables.

    • Prepare the Regulation and Policy Newsletter for the wider business.

    • Provide advice and guidance to colleagues on regulatory and policy matters.

    Our key criteria

    These are the qualifications, experience, skills, or knowledge you must have:

    • At least 3 years previous experience of working in a policy, economics, legal or advocacy role; however other experience will be considered if relevant to the role.

    • Third level 2.1 degree or masters in STEM, Economics, Business or Law.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; including high attention to detail and an ability to convey arguments that persuade and influence others.

    • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with an ability to prioritise tasks, cope with a changeable workload, and work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined team.

    • Ability to get to grips with complex and new topics in a relatively short space of time and use own initiative to consider how best to accomplish a task or goal.

    Our desirable criteria

    These help decide between talent who meet all the essential criteria:

    • An understanding of politics and / or the principles of economic regulation.

    • Knowledge of renewables, electricity markets, and decarbonisation policy.

    • Experience of drafting responses to government or regulatory consultations.

    • Experience of coordinating work across a multi-disciplined team.

    • Excellent IT Skills with sound knowledge of MS packages, particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Teams.
