Rounding off its third successful year as part of BST Hyde Park’s Open House, All Things Orchestral delivered an extraordinary classical music experience this evening (10 July). Hosted once again by Myleene Klass, crowds were treated to a spectacle of scores in the sun lit park, delivered by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and conducted by Ben Palmer.

Klass meticulously guided the audience through the evening and was joined on stage by special guests, including Academy-Award winning composer Michael Giacchino, string duo FIRL (Eos Counsell and Gay-Yee Westerhoff) and German baritone Benjamin Appl. Audience members were treated to a soaring collection of fan-favourite orchestral pieces, including John Williams’ themes for Harry Potter and Star Wars, Elgar’s Nimrod and Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man.

Klass greeted the crowd, celebrating classic music and defying the stereotypes surrounding the genre: “When a lot of people think about classical music, they think it’s very stuffy and [with] bow ties and there are a lot of rules and regulations when it comes to classical music…This is not the case.” She continued, “Mozart is a bit like Harry Styles. Liszt is a bit like Taylor Swift; he had so much fanmail he couldn’t deal with it — these guys are the biggest personalities. Classical music… they’re the original rock stars!”

In a world exclusive, BST Hyde Park’s Open House hosted the premiere of Grammy Award-winning American composer Michael Giacchino’s musical suite for Marvel Studios’ upcoming release, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn. Giacchino is renowned for his work on Pixar’s The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Up – the latter earning him the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 2009.

Introducing the segment on stage, Giacchino remarked: “I’m so thrilled to be here. Today I have with me the suite for the ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’. You guys will be the first to hear it. I was gonna introduce it myself but I have a couple of friends that I brought along with me that are at a launch event in town for ‘Fantastic Four’ right now. So, I’m gonna throw it to the screen to let you see my friends who have something to say to you…”

With that, the four stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn, appeared on the screen, live from the UK Fan Event at the BFI IMAX. “Hello, Hyde Park” said Kirby. “We’re the Fantastic Four!” added Moss-Bachrach. Quinn joined in, “And we are coming to you live from the blue carpet event in the UK”. Pascal joyously summed up “We are thrilled to introduce the world premiere of the music from our movie… please enjoy!”

In a great moment of synergy, The Fantastic Four: First Steps Suite, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, was then streamed from BST Hyde park to the UK Launch Event where cast members, filmmakers and fans were in attendance.

For the spectacular second half, audiences were treated to scores of Star Wars’ ‘The Imperial March,’ originally composed by John Williams and ‘Fanfare The Common Man’ by Aaron Copland. As a special VE Day tribute, Benjamin Appl performed ‘Home Sweet Home’ and a mesmerising iteration of ‘Lucky To Be Me’.  All Things Orchestral’s sweeping show wrapped up with a super-powered remake of Giacchino’s beloved The Incredibles suite and John Williams’ captivating Indiana Jones Main Theme tune score.
