The Fulham Boys School is an 11-18 school for boys. Founded by local parents and teachers, it opened with its first Year 7 boys in September 2014 and now has 800 boys including 200 in the Sixth Form.

We have made an ambitious pledge to be one of the very best schools in this country – state or private.

The Fulham Boys School is an independent government-funded school. We are a free school and fully embrace this freedom. To this end we have created and constantly reinforce a highly distinctive ethos. It is an ethos that is built upon the Christian faith, nurtures enterprise and is geared towards boys, supported by an academic curriculum that equips FBS boys to apply for Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.

    Job Overview

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational leader who is committed to the school’s founding vision of delivering an outstanding education to our young men, both inside and outside the classroom. The successful candidate will be joining an exciting and collegiate Senior Leadership Team at FBS.

    About the Sixth Form

Although it is only a few years old, the Fulham Boys School Sixth Form already has proven success and has more internal and external applicants than we can accommodate. Academically it has gone from strength to strength. In August 2023, 96% of boys were accepted into their first or second choice of university, with an average A-Level grade across the year group of a ‘B’, and 22% of boys achieving all A /A grades. The results, in contrast to the national picture, showed a continued improvement across all subjects and pupil groups compared to 2022. In the past few weeks we have had 5 boys offered places at Oxbridge. Expectations for behaviour and attitudes in the Sixth Form are also exceptionally high, and students are fully integrated into the rest of the school. They join younger year groups in weekly chaplaincy assemblies, engage fully in house competitions and take on substantial student leadership roles, most notably through the Head Boy and his team. They are role models and ambassadors for our school’s ethos. The Christian ethos of the school plays a key role in the Sixth Form, with specific ways for boys to engage with the Christian faith and claims of Jesus Christ. The Sixth Form, along with the rest of the school, also benefit from numerous opportunities outside of lessons, in part through our weekly co-curricular programme and sports afternoon. The FBS Alumni organisation, only recently set up, already has exceptionally high levels of engagement amongst former students.

The new Head of Sixth Form will build on these successes whilst acknowledging the areas for development. They will be a key leader in the drive for outstanding teaching in all KS5 lessons, for high standards of behaviour, attitudes and uniform amongst every Sixth Former, and for the creation of even more opportunities for our boys to prepare for university and future careers. They will lead a Sixth Form team that includes two assistant heads of sixth form, a careers lead, UCAS lead and administrator, along with Sixth Form tutors.

The post would suit existing senior leaders but also experienced middle leaders who are looking to move into senior leadership. Our belief is that any successful candidate would have the ambition to move into a Deputy Head Teacher or Vice Principal role within the next five years. It is highly likely that the successful application will have experience within a sixth form context.

FBS has a comprehensive CPD programme built upon the best evidence-based research, and which includes specific CPD for senior leaders. This is a role where the successful candidate can make a tangible impact on the lives of hundreds of young men but also experience significant personal and professional development.

We offer all of our students an extended school day with all of our boys in school until 4:10pm Monday to Thursday and 2.45pm on Fridays. During this time, our extensive co-curricular offer enables students to take on a new sport or find their passion in debating, gardening or social enterprise.
