Job Purpose

To ensure, develop and maintain the effective running of an evidence based specialised therapeutic community working with young people who have displayed harmful sexual behaviour. To support the effective running of the therapeutic community you will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary management team, to ensure internal and regulatory processes are met and in turn providing the highest standard of service to our young people.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
To ensure that the service is delivered within the philosophy of therapeutic practice E.g. Community of Communities Standards
To ensure the service is delivered and maintained effectively through the professional and supportive management of a team of residential and ancillary staff.
To ensure that the service operates in compliance with all legislation, regulation and statutory guidance.
To be responsible for the day-to-day management and care of young people in the home, ensuring the establishment and maintenance of an environment that meets their physical, emotional, social, educational and cultural needs
To ensure that the Board is alerted to events / incidents at a time appropriate to their severity.
To manage effectively a broad range of responsibilities through appropriate delegation and effective time and workload management techniques.
To manage your own personal and continuous professional development through supervision, training and the acquisition of different learning opportunities.

Management of staff
To provide the staff with strong managerial leadership, direction and clarity of expectation.
To establish and maintain a competent and professional staff team through programmed supervision, appraisal, training and mentoring.
To ensure staff feel supported and valued in their roles.
To ensure the effective dissemination of organisational information and learning to all staff members.
To ensure that disciplinary and grievance matters are dealt with sensitively, promptly and that procedures are always followed.
To ensure that there is always a sufficient number of staff on duty in order to maintain a safe and effective service.

Care of Young People
To ensure each young person’s individual needs are assessed and met in conjunction with the Education and Therapy teams.
To create a placement plan for day-to-day care and progression of the young person and ensure this is implemented. Also to monitor and review plans and services for all young people at regular intervals to ensure they are achieving the best outcomes for their progression and development.
To effectively participate in the Child Care Management of the service by attending statutory reviews and a range of other internal and external meetings.
To ensure that young people’s finances are managed appropriately and to maintain a sound knowledge of appropriate benefit entitlement for the young people within the home.
To contribute to the overall effectiveness of the young person’s placement, ensuring their voices are heard, they are championed and supported to achieve their goals, and are encouraged to prepare for life after Amberleigh to ensure the best transition for them.

Organisational Management
To manage a budget allocation paying due regard to financial practice and effective management of resources.
To ensure that all business is accurately recorded and carried out in accordance with organisational policy and procedures.
To write and compile reports, service plans and documents, as required, ensuring the maintenance of essential records, including information for the purpose of statistical analysis.
To ensure that the appropriate managerial cover arrangements are made in your absence.
To provide out of hours management support for the staff team when required.
To promote and model anti-discriminatory behaviour and attitudes at all times.
To ensure the implementation of all policies and procedures that relate to the running of the service, ensuring that these are regularly and systematically monitored.
To actively participate in marketing the service to build relationships and secure referrals.
To contribute to the liaison with local authorities in respect of placement contracts.
To undertake any other duties as may be considered commensurate to the grade of the post.

PERSON SPECIFICATION – Registered Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL:

– NVQ Level 5 in Care with management component or equivalent

– NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care working with children and young people

– Evidence of CPD (Continued Professional Development)

– No criminal record including convictions, cautions, reprimands, binding over or warnings which may be relevant to the safety and welfare of our young people / staff

LEADING

ESSENTIAL:

– Commitment to effective behaviour management tailored to individual need.

– Clear understanding of children’s needs and how they are met

– Commitment to making Home life enjoyable for all

– Ability to develop and maintain a therapeutic ethos where all children and adults are valued, can contribute, and achieve success

– Ability to support and mentor staff

– Ability to be an effective role model

– Leadership and management skills to challenge and motivate staff in order to improve outcomes for children

– Knowledge and understanding of National Care Standards, Safeguarding and other relevant legislation

DESIRABLE:

– Knowledge of good practice and legislation in recruitment and selection including safer recruitment training.

EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL:

– At least five years experience of residential childcare

– At least one year’s experience of successfully managing a team and its resources

– Performance Management
