Facilities Assistant/Technician

Your new role
Responsible for all building maintenance
Assist with managing relevant contracts and supervising on-site contractors
Initiating repair procedures, calling appropriate suppliers when breakdowns/emergencies occur
Dealing confidently with contractors and consultants on more complex issues
Undertaking regular buildings checks and daily maintenance routines. Taking responsibility for decisions in respect to the building management system (BMS) (for example adjusting temperature settings).
Efficiently and effectively responding to breakdowns, emergencies and requests for maintenance, and ensuring preventative action minimises maintenance issues
Logging faults, incidents and breakdowns
Prioritising maintenance work and ensuring sufficient back up stock is available at all times (for example bulbs and fuses)
Managing logged calls the the maintenance mailbox efficiently and effectively
Identify and resolve technical problems if qualified to do so
Ensuring rooms are set up and ready for meetings at the start of the day
Assisting in the planning and execution of any changes to office layouts/furniture
Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation at all times including when planning accommodation moves and supervising contractors
Moving items of furniture as required, with due regard to current health and safety guidance and regulations
Adherence to best practice manual handling principles at all times
Checking for, and addressing, safety hazards
Ensuring fire precautions are in place and undertaking checks of system
What you’ll need to succeed
Previous experience of an in-house maintenance role including maintenance routines and day-to-day running of a building
Knowledge of basic health and safety legislation
Understanding of site security issues
Able to operate electrical/mechanical systems
Experience in using power tools safely
Has a working knowledge of plant, machinery, heating and ventilation systems
Able to effectively organise own work
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Able to understand and apply regulations (such as health and safety, manual handling regulations, etc)
Excellent interpersonal skills as the role involves interacting with people at all levels both within the NMC, as well as with external visitors and contractors
Ability to manage a number of different tasks whilst maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Able to confidently deal directly with contractors and consultants on
more complex issues
Willing to undergo training as required
Able to handle/carry heavy items
Able to respond flexibly to changing demands
Working knowledge of using operation and maintenance manuals
Able to show initiative and work proactively to ensure site the maintenance
Ability to work outside normal working hours and be on a standby rota when necessary
