    Date

    BEECHWOOD PARK SCHOOL

The school has excellent Art and Design facilities with a fully equipped Art Studio and Pottery Cellar for our pupils and is introducing a Digital Design studio, as part of our investment in Digital Design, Animation, Video, Photography and Music.

All pupils are taught Art and Design from Nursery through to Year Eight. The Head of Art teaches Art and Design to pupils across the Prep School Years (Key Stages Two and Three), with the younger pupils receiving Art and Design from their class teachers and other specialists. An Artist in Residence, who the Head of Art line manages, also supports the Head of Art and DT department. Art and Design at Beechwood Park strives to discover and highlight every child’s unique potential in creative expression. Teaching realism, alongside imaginative, abstract art, our pupils learn how to analyse and skilfully interpret their visual world. This nurturing process is taught by exploring the art elements of line, shape, colour, space and texture and principles of design such as unity, balance, scale, and proportion.

Beechwood Park children learn to use a wide variety of art materials, whilst also studying art history. Many projects are linked to other National Curriculum subjects such as Geography, English, History, Technology and Music and includes learning about various cultural aesthetics from around the world, such as Aboriginal and African art. Technology at Beechwood Park has become an important element within all subjects and is an exciting area of development within the Art and Design Department, enhancing children’s abilities to develop their very own personal styles and appreciation of the visual arts.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the teaching, learning and overall quality of Art throughout the school and for developing the creative and artistic ability in all of our children throughout the school. Be responsible for the leadership and management of the department including its facilities and budget and will also be developing art and design clubs, after school activities and and organising internal Art and Design Competitions and art-related events and trips for pupils. You would also be liaising with our Head of Design and Technology to support this exciting subject as required.
