Mechanical Engineer – Heat Transfer & FEA

    EVP Global Functions

    A Snapshot of Your Day

You will be a key player in the Mechanical engineering team, focusing on the Carry out static/transient, Linear/Non-linear thermal and thermo mechanical FEA (Finite element analysis), thermal design and prediction of component material temperatures, for components operating in the hot gas flow path for various stationary and rotary hardware of Oil and Gas industry i.e. turbomachinery. You will work collaboratively with various departments to execute Fields of Action (FoA) co-creation projects, contributing to the development of a competitive portfolio and leading the energy transition.

How You’ll Make an Impact / Responsibilities

    Finite element analysis (FEA):

    • Carry out static/transient, Linear/Non-linear thermal and thermo mechanical FEA (Finite element analysis) of Static & Rotating components (e.g. Rotor & casing etc.) using commercial software such as ANSYS mechanical, ANSYS workbench,  NX-CAE.
    • Perform Low cycle fatigue, High Cycle fatigue and detailed Fracture mechanics assessment of static & rotating components.
    • Perform high temperature creep calculation and assessment. Creep-fatigue interaction needs to be checked.
    • Prepare and document FE calculation in the form of structural integrity design report.

    Heat Transfer Assessment:

    • Heat transfer design and analysis of various (rotating or stationary or system).
    • Heat transfer and flow analysis using inhouse & commercial 1D,2D,3D & CFD codes e.g., CFX, Star CCM+. Able to understand the physics, apply relevant assumptions, interpret results & perform basic hand calculations in fluid mechanics & heat transfer discipline.
    • Thermal modelling using flow network approach with pressure loss and heat transfer correlations. Able to apply boundary conditions to a FE solver (NX- Simcenter/ NASTRAN, ANSYS) for the calculations of material temperature.
    • Able to understand the product function, design requirements and design principles.

Project Contribution: Actively contribute to focused project teams to support technology and product development objectives, particularly in the area of Mechanical FEA and Heat Transfer.

Collaboration: Foster a collaborative work ethic within the team and the ICA, promoting knowledge sharing and innovation.

Communication: Effectively communicate with multiple functional groups, including Business Areas and Global Innovation Centers, to ensure alignment and successful project execution.

What You Bring / Skills, Capabilities

    • Educational Background: University degree in Mechanical engineering or a related field (Master/Diploma) or comparable qualification.
    • Experience: 8+ years of work experience in the field of FEA and Heat Transfer.

    Technical Skills:

    • Finite element analysis & ability to review the results. Good Familiarity with FE codes like ANSYS or general-purpose FEA tool.
    • Basic understanding of Mechanical integrity (Strength, Fatigue, Creep, Fracture) Turbomachinery Aerodynamics, and manufacturing aspects for various stationary and rotary hardware.

    Professional Attributes:

    • Proven track record of co-creation with customers or similar collaborative projects will be preferred.
    • High energy, enthusiasm, and a focus on achieving results that benefit the company and the Innovation Center.
    • Willingness to take on challenging projects to support the growth of the ICA.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to drive quick results.
    • Excellent English language skills.
