    Job Purpose:

    Join our dynamic team as the Reader Services Librarian where you’ll play a key role in ensuring smooth library operations and providing exceptional user support. You will be responsible for managing staff rotas and addressing library circulation queries while also serving as the subject librarian for a specific area of study.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Maintain high standards of customer-facing library services and a conducive study environment.
    • Oversee the weekly staff rota to ensure efficient circulation and enquiry service.
    • Resolve circulation issues and mediate user queries, fostering a culture of customer care.
    • Line manage designated staff, ensuring the delivery of quality service.
    • Train staff on desk duties and monitor processes for quality assurance.
    • Collaborate with IT, Media Services, and Facilities to maintain library equipment.
    • Coordinate with the Communications team for library news and updates.
    • Manage overdue library books, including communication with students and overseeing fines.
    • Act as the subject librarian, providing academic liaison, resource procurement, and direct student support.
    • Assist in the selection and acquisition of information materials, managing a delegated budget.
    • Contribute to the overall management of the University Library Service, attending departmental meetings as needed.
    • Address subject-based enquiries both remotely and in-person, directing queries to colleagues when appropriate.
    • Represent the Library at internal and external committees and meetings.
    • Collect and analyse service statistics to monitor library usage.
    • Promote and implement the University’s health and safety and equal opportunities policies.
    • Undertake any other duties as required, commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the role.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Library and Information Science or a related field.
    • Experience in library operations and staff management.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
    • Proven problem-solving skills and a customer-focused approach.
    • Familiarity with academic library resources and services.
