Rotor Winder (2nd & 3rd Shifts Available)

    Gas Services

    A Snapshot of Your Day

The generator rotor winder assembles copper coils onto large generator rotors, which are used to create an electromagnetic field during operation.  As a rotor winder you will be forming, brazing, and insulating the copper coils.  After the complete copper winding is installed, you will fit and install composite blocking between the copper end arcs and install wedges in the rotor body to hold the coils in position. Throughout the day will perform the required safety and quality checks and fill out the electronic quality control documents

    How You’ll Make an Impact

    • Perform rotor winding tasks including winding, brazing, insulating, blocking, wedging, and assembling
    • Work on both new rotors and refurbishment of service rotors
    • Assist in other hand skill areas of generator rotor manufacturing, such as assembly of shrunk-on components and machining deburr operations.
    • Work in other areas of the campus on other products as needed.

    What You Bring

    • High school degree or equivalent
    • 1+ years of experience in manufacturing/industrial/assembly operations
    • Must be able to obtain internal certifications for copper brazing and ultrasonic examination of braze joints (internal training and testing provided)
    • Basic mathematical knowledge
    • Basic computer skills
    • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, charts, and tables
    • Ability to use precision measuring instruments
    • Ability to obtain fork truck and crane license
    • Knowledge of large rotating equipment & manufacturing processes is a plus

    Your opportunities for personal growth

    • You will be assigned a mentor to work with you as you gain the skills needed to work on your own
    • You will gain skills needed to wind new generator rotors and rewind service generator rotors
    • You may occasionally interact with internal & external customers during their factory visits

    About the Team

Our Large Generator Rotor Operations team is responsible for manufacturing large electric generator rotors weighing up to 275 tons.  We operate within the Large Generator team to supply new 150 – 1000 megawatt generators to power plants all over the world.  In addition to manufacturing new rotors, we also service generator rotors by providing inspections, rewinds, modernizations, and upgrades.

Our Gas Services division offers low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
