About the Students’ Union
This Leeds based Students’ Union is a charity that helps represents over 39,000 students in Leeds. The Students’ Union aims as a charity are to support, enable and represent their students to ensure they get the most out of their time at Leeds and have fun while they are here.
The Students’ Union has a turnover of £10 million per year and invest their money back into services such as Help & Support, Student Activities, Academic and Political Engagement.
The Students’ Union are delighted to be inviting applications for candidates with a strong background in HR, People and Culture, Organisation Development, Voluntary Sector leadership or Higher Education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing strong strategic leadership and oversight for the organisation.
- Ask questions and provide challenges and support to ensure we’re operating effectively as a charity.
- Providing oversight of policies and activities to ensure they are legal, financially viable and do not negatively impact the Students’ Union’s reputation.
- Build strong relationships within the Board and the wider community.
- Ensuring the financial stability of the Students’ Union.

Who Are We Looking For?
- Commitment to the Students’ Union and its vision and values and a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.
- Proven ability to think strategically and exercise good, independent judgement.
- An ability to think creatively and a willingness to speak their mind.
- An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
- The ability to work effectively as a member of a team and accept corporate responsibility.

In order for the Students’ Union to be able to make sure every student is able to celebrate who they are, shape their university experience, and feel connected to a community, the Students’ Union need to continue to innovate and make sure they champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in everything that they do. This means having a commitment to supporting a diverse and inclusive Trustee Board.
The Students’ Union would particularly welcome applications from Black and Asian candidates, those who identify as women or non-binary, and disabled candidates, in order to improve representation of these groups on our Board.
