Limelight Productions and ebp have joined forces to create a pioneering new immersive theatre -‘The Buzz’. The seminal joint venture between the two production houses will truly be a theatre of firsts. The new building will be the first purpose-built fully flexible performance arts venue for immersive and interactive theatrical events in the UK.
In the last few years, the immersive and interactive arts have exploded in London. Now, the city has a true anchor- a space for leading creatives to meet, network and develop brave new ideas.
The Buzz will offer a focal meeting point in The Buzz Bar and will be working with local universities to appoint student ambassadors; creating a networking community for the next generation of creatives and offering specific events and workshops to the local community.
Richard Lewis of Limelight Productions said:
“After 22 years we at The Limelight Group are thrilled to be building our own venue – one of the only parts of professional theatre we haven’t worked in as yet! We are delighted to be collaborating with Emma and Ralph, who are already at the forefront of the most innovative, exciting and expanding form of entertainment – the immersive experience. The Buzz is a welcoming home to practitioners and pioneers and it is genuinely thrilling to be part of an enterprise in London which offers the opportunity to explore and extend the possibilities in this exciting new theatrical format.”
Emma Brunjes of ebp said:
“Finding locations for immersive productions is always a challenge. Building the first ever purpose-built flexible venue for this fast-growing genre of work and creating a hub for like-minded creatives felt like the obvious next step. We feel there is a real need for a permanent immersive creative space in the capital. We are thrilled to be working with Richard and all the team at The Limelight Group on this ground-breaking new venture.”
Ralph Brunjes of ebp added:
“The Buzz will complement the vibrant and consistently developing landscape of Borough and Elephant and Castle. The area has changed so significantly over the last five years alone that it is exciting for us all to be a part of it. Thanks to our architects and project managers we have also ensured our venue can me moved to any location giving us the potential to bring the most dynamic form of theatre to more audiences across the UK and beyond!”
Andrea Rasca, Mercato Metropolitano Founder, said, “I have always been attracted by theatre, musical, opera, cinema, I found that all kind of arts were magnets for me. Mercato Metropolitano is, a community hub. When my team presented me with The Buzz, I had no doubt that that was it. We needed to have a real theatrical experience at MM so we are very proud to have teamed up with Limelight and ebp to create together The Buzz at MM which will be the only spot in London of this kind, something which will make the borough of Elephant & Castle proud of, and the Londoners very, very happy indeed.”
